Who we are
walkingdog.io ("we", "us", "our") publishes a free dog-walking calculator and an associated journal. This privacy policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, how we store it, and what rights you have over it. If anything here is unclear, email us at [CONTACT_EMAIL].
What we do not collect
We do not set analytics cookies by default. We do not run Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, Segment, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Hotjar, or any similar product by default. We do not fingerprint your browser. We do not build a profile of you across sessions. We do not sell, rent, or share data with data brokers.
The walking calculator runs entirely in your browser. The breed, age, weight, energy level, and health notes you type in are processed on your device. They are never sent to our servers and they are not logged anywhere. Close the tab and they are gone.
What we do collect
Server access logs
Our hosting provider records standard server logs when pages are requested: the page URL, the time of the request, an approximate region derived from the IP address, and the user agent string. These logs exist for security and abuse prevention (blocking bots, diagnosing outages) and are rotated on a short retention window by the host. We do not correlate them with any personal identifier.
Email address (only if you give us one)
If you subscribe to our newsletter or join a waitlist, we collect the email address you enter, the date you subscribed, and — for the waitlist — a note of which product you asked to be told about. That is the full list.
Email addresses are stored with [EMAIL_PROVIDER], which acts as our data processor. Their own privacy practices are documented at [EMAIL_PROVIDER_URL]. We do not pass your email to any other third party. Every email we send includes a working one-click unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing removes your address from the list.
Contact form messages
If you write to us through the contact form, we receive the message you wrote and the email address you provided so that we can reply. Messages are kept in our inbox for as long as the conversation is active and deleted when it is not.
Advertising
Some pages may display ads served by Google AdSense. AdSense is operated by Google LLC and, when enabled, sets its own cookies and may process personal data (including your IP address and approximate location) to serve and measure ads. Google's use of data from its services is governed by Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy and described for advertising specifically at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.
Where required by law (for example, for users in the UK, EEA, and Switzerland), a consent banner is shown before any non-essential AdSense cookies are set, and you can withdraw consent at any time from our cookie policy page. You can also opt out of personalised advertising across the web at google.com/settings/ads and youronlinechoices.com.
Legal bases for processing (UK GDPR / EU GDPR)
- Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — for newsletter emails and, where required, for advertising cookies.
- Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — for server access logs used to keep the site running and secure.
- Performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — if you contact us to ask for a service, to the extent needed to respond.
Your rights
If you are in the UK, EEA, Switzerland, or another jurisdiction with similar data protection law, you have the right to:
- ask what personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct inaccurate data;
- ask us to delete your data ("right to erasure");
- ask us to restrict or object to processing;
- receive a copy of your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time where consent is our legal basis;
- lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
To exercise any of these rights, email [CONTACT_EMAIL]. We aim to respond within 30 days.
International transfers
Our hosting provider and [EMAIL_PROVIDER] may store data on servers outside your country of residence, including in the United States. Where that happens, transfers are covered by the appropriate safeguards — Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent — as required by UK GDPR and EU GDPR.
Children
walkingdog.io is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that is the relevant threshold). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a material way — for example, if we add new third-party processors or new categories of data — we will update the "last updated" date at the top and, where we have your email address, notify you by email before the change takes effect.
Governing law and contact
This policy is governed by the law of [JURISDICTION]. Questions, complaints, or data-rights requests go to [CONTACT_EMAIL].
